Location: A hill near Rigov City-
The Dirj landed, massive talons tearing clods from the earth of the hill as it stalked towards Aldere. Its long neck snaked towards her, its circular mouth opening in a monsterous hiss. The hiss rose, becoming a roar, becoming a shriek, becoming a bolt of pure sound channeled towards Aldere.

Farle's ears twiched and swiveled towards the noise and she turned towards the courier as he cleared his throat. She narrowed her eyes and wondered why someone from the palace actually came to this small village, since it wasn't tax time yet.

Akae smelled him before she saw him. He wasn't of Milag. Turning around, she noticed that he came from the palace. Her tail swayed back and forth, showing that she was on her guard. "Well, you have our attention. What have you come to say? Perhaps you require instructions to --------*?" Akae said, thinking Milag was of next to no importance to the courier.

((*Random Important City. I got the style of that from Pride and Prejudice. It was annoying how they kept calling it the -------shire. It pretty much means the character knows what it is but the writer doesn't =P

Old English Accent FTW =D))

Aldere didn't exactly know if this was an animal, but she tried to communicate with it. "Why are you doing this?" she asked it, trying to stay calm, even though it was becoming increasingly difficult to do so.

Farle was more on her guard and asked, "Have you come for us or someone else in Milag? Random royal-types like yourself don't come here that often, and frankly I had thought they had forgotten about this little village, but then you came." she said, her voice becoming more fake-sweetness laden with every word.

(Not going to do the location tags when responding to a previous post)
"Actually, I have come to see you." Rontin said, trying his best to be amiable. "I have been set to ride out on errantry at the King's behest." That was true enough; Couriers of the King spent most of their time riding around, seeking adventure, which this technically was. "Now, shall we go inside? There are matters of dire import that I must discuss with you."

In response, the beast only screamed some more, causing Aldere's ears to start bleeding. In another minute, consciousness would be impossible.

Aldere couldn't talk it. She saw a red substance dripping to the ground from her ears and soon her eyes closed, she stumbled and then fell to the ground.

The Dirj stalked forward towards Aldere's unconscious form. Picking her up in its talons, it launched itself skyward, giving one last shriek before it flew off towards the mountains, wailing softly.

Akae stared at Farle, waiting for her to answer. Akae was perfectly fine with going as long as Farle was as well. Though she didn't exactly care for the royalty or anyone who worked for them, they didn't have a bad reputation either.

Aldere lay unconscious in the talons of the large beast. Her mind wondered and soon began to play tricks on her, and it began to tell her that she was imagining this all.

Farle smiled, and said,"Of course, why wouldn't we love to discuss that with you?" with all the willpower she had trying to mask her heavily dripping sarcasm. In reality, she couldn't have cared less, but she had a feeling that she would have to listen to the speech anyway.

Rontin's eyes narrowed by an infinitesimal fraction. One didn't rise to the rank of Chief Courier without noting the emotions of others carefully, especially those that they tried to conceal. Keeping his voice cheery, he said "Very well then, inside." With that, he turned towards the village proper.

Yellow wrote:Aldere lay unconscious in the talons of the large beast. Her mind wondered and soon began to play tricks on her, and it began to tell her that she was imagining this all.

"Sir! Pilot Wysion reporting, Sir!"
Ever so slowly, Troopleader Hramisan Ayriod set down his steaming mug of tea. Just when he was beginning to enjoy himself... "Well, what is it now?!?" he snapped.
"It's The Dirj, sir. It's overflying us again."
"You know the drill. Fire off a few rounds, scare the dumb beast off."
"There's more, Sir. It has... a person, Sir?"
"A person?" The Troopleader had never heard of anything like this before. The Dirj ate people, sure, but abduction was a new one. "And they're alive"
"It appears so, sir. A human female.""
Oh, steam and starfire, what was he going to do about this one? He was going to have to potentially compromise city security for a blasted human female! Stupid Vows of Life! Scald them!
Hramisan took a deep breath. "Tranq the scalded thing and safety-web it in the Upper Levels. Get the girl to the infirmary and the monster out of the city. Drug it hard enough and the dumb thing won't even remember anything happened..."
"Yes, Sir."

Within ten minutes, Aldere was tucked in an infirmary bed. Within thirty, The Dirj was snoring in its usual loud manner ten miles away.

<Yep, I just added a city of stempunk elves with firearms to a fantasy RPG. 'Cause I can do that.>

Farle motioned for the courier to follow her and led him back to the village to a smaller cottage where she and Akae had grown up. It was designed like many of the other cottages, with the same thatched roofing and the same wooden frame. The inside was somewhat cozy, but also nothing special. Farle's parents were in the living room when they came in.
"Farle, who is this?" her father asked.
"Just a 'friend'." she said.
Her mother told them that they could go talk in Farle's room, since she brung them in. Farle sighed and led the way to her own room.

"A royal 'friend'." Akae muttered under her breath to Farle's response to her father. She took off her hood* and carried it into the room where she threw it onto the bed.

((*the hood part was not actually on her head she took the thing as a whole off; in case of any misunderstandings, it's like little red riding hood's hood 'cept it's brown...))

Rontin considered his answer only for the briefest of moments. It was a delicate situation, but he was quite adept at handling those. "There have been some rather interesting occurences at Court of late, all of a particularly ominous nature. Normally, we would seek the help of the Conclave, but they are somewhat indisposed, as you may have heard. So, instead, we are attempting to gather up any young people of a more, shall we say, paranormal bent that we can find. You two certainly fit the bill. So, what do you say? His Majesty pays well for services rendered, and you would have access to one of the finest educations in the world. You would learn the arts, alchemy, literature, astronomy, politics, combat... Should you so desire it, you could even gain a position in government when you're older. So, what do you say? Or maybe you need some more time to decide?"

Akae never liked it here much anyways; though she did appreciate Farle's parents, the townspeople could be annoying. Speaking of her parents, she and Farle would definitely have to ask first. This would bring up a problem since no one really knows that they had magical abilities. And would they really just let them go? Surely the Court would give her town something, at the very least they could just help her family. Then there's Farle to think about. She has a lot of friends here, so she may not want to just leave them like that. If that's the case, then the courier would have to leave empty-handed. The opposite if she chooses to go. Either way, Akae is going with her. That decided, she let Farle speak first.

{Oh come on! LM, you know I'm terrible with big-life decisions like this! And they don't really have a choice either y'know.}
Farle sighed heavily. Then, when her eyes opened, they were accusing, "So basically, since you think you know what we are, you try to take us away, and if you don't then our families will pay for it? Hmm?" A silence started for a while. Farle's eyes glinted slightly, and she spoke, "Fine." -mutters under breath "Great, now I get to tell my parents that this guy gets to take us away, without any plans of returning, and isn't that GREAT."-
She opened the door and said simply, "We're leaving. Bye."
Farle's parents looked somewhat stunned, but they also said farewell.

Akae said her goodbyes to Farle's parents and put her hood on, letting the courier lead the way.

((Note: I did this IC from a personal view for artistic reasons.))

Once you had reached the edge of town, Rontin pulled from his pocket a small orb. It was a shining bronze color and, if you looked as hard as you could, so hard that you almost thought you might be imagining it, you could see swirls of other colors as well; if you looked even harder, you might just see clearly enough to see people in the orb, whole rooms, fading in and out. As the orb hit the ground, you might hear a sigh of wind, and then you see the orb go clear and melt like spring dew, a wave of bronze power shooting through the ground, and then up into your body and those of the two people beside you. And then you are gone, leaving nothing behind but a bare circle of earth, glittering with frost, and a smell like ozone and burning metal and pungent herbs and fresh chocolate and a million other scents that are all one scent at the same time: the scent of magic.
You are be in a field of whiteness, nothing around you, not even your own body. Somehow, in your formlessness, you still hear the beat of your heart, loud in your ears. You feel nothing else; there is nothing else. This is the world. You are there but a second. You are there a world's age. Just when you cannot bear the emptiness, cannot bear being the sum of all that is, you are at your destination. You are at the Royal Palace. It is the exact second that you left Milag. You are in a large room, dominated by a massive sphere, like the one that fell and took you here. People bustle about, arriving from all over the kingdom. Your head hurts. You've never been in a place so vibrant, so full of different people. You're tired. You're there.

Akae was expressionless, unaffected by it's beauty, but really this was not what she expected. Maybe a large stone building surrounded by guards. Not this. This was unexpected. Like looking for a bag of coins and finding a gold mine. She refused to show her astonishment though. Astonishment was just another sign of weakness to her. Like she can't expect the simplest of things.

Farle yawned loudly, rubbing her head and muttered, "So this is it? I think I'm being disapointed, hearing all the good things about this place. Great, just great, now I have this blasted headache to boot." (Not much is fazing her when she's irritated. lol)
